Explore and interact with BIM and CAD models in your browser—no installs, just real-time insights from a live construction model.
OVERVIEW:
The built-in Autodesk Forge Viewer enables users to view, explore, and interact with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and CAD models directly within the platform. This allows teams to contextualise site progress, asset data, and IoT readings within a live, navigable digital twin of the construction site—without requiring desktop software or plug-ins.
KEY CAPABILITIES
Model Viewing in the Browser
- View 2D and 3D models in over 50 supported file formats (including Revit, DWG, IFC, Navisworks).
- No local installation required — fully web-based viewing experience.
Model Navigation Tools
- Pan, orbit, zoom, isolate, explode and section models.
- Easily navigate complex assemblies and multi-storey structures.
Object Metadata Inspection
- Select any component in the model to view its associated properties (e.g., type, material, dimensions, installation date)
- Cross-reference model elements with progress status, asset IDs, or issues.
Progress and IoT Data Overlay
- Overlay progress data (e.g., % complete) or real-time IoT readings (e.g., temperature, dust levels) directly on model components.
- Visualise environmental sensor data in context (e.g., highlight zones exceeding dust limits).
Linked Documentation
- Attach and access related documents (e.g., method statements, photos, RFIs) from within the model environment.
- Easily trace back to specific components or activities.
Multi-Model Coordination
- Load federated models to coordinate architecture, structure, MEP, and civil packages in a single view.
- Detect clashes or discrepancies visually.
Permissions-Aware Access
- Viewing access controlled by role and project permissions.
- Restrict sensitive model data to appropriate stakeholders.
USER STORIES
- As a project engineer, I want to inspect model components and check their metadata without leaving the platform.
- As a site manager, I want to overlay live IoT sensor data on the model to understand where dust levels are rising.
- As a client representative, I want to explore the 3D model and understand progress visually during remote project reviews.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Powered by Autodesk Forge Viewer SDK with custom extensions tailored to your project workflows.
- Supports integration with Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, and other CDEs.
- Performance-optimised for large models with progressive loading and component filtering.
